Power Spots are making their way to Pokémon Go, giving you access to the Dynamax Pokémon and encounters. Power Spots debuted in Pokémon Sword and Shield, where players could face off against Dynamax Pokémon at their nests.

These locations won’t work the same in the mobile game, though. Power Spots have several mechanics that make them similar to the original feature but differ for Pokémon Go players. You’ll want to know what these differences are and how they benefit you before diving into these locations. Here’s what you need to know about how Power Spots work in Pokémon Go.

What are Power Spots in Pokémon Go?

Power Spots are where you battle against Dynamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go. They appear at new locations similar to Gyms and PokéStops, making their debut during the Max Out season. However, they are not replacing these already-created landmarks. Don’t expect to lose a well-known PokéStop or Gym in your local area.

Power Spots are unique because they shift and change, showing up at new locations. Thankfully, all Power Spots have a timer attached, showing when they will shift to a different area in Pokémon Go. When you interact with a Power Spot, this is where you can earn Max Particles. You can do this once per day per Power Spot, which means tracking down several Power Spots each day is the best way to reach your maximum amount of Max Particles in Pokémon Go.

When a Power Spot appears, so does a Dynamax Pokémon. You can enter the Dynamax Battle to challenge the Pokémon if you have enough Max Particles. The amount of Max Particles you use to enter the location varies on the tier of Pokémon living there. When you want to battle a Dynamax Pokémon, you need at least three other players to join you, which can only happen in local play. You can only use Dynamax Pokémon to battle another Dynamax Pokémon.

After defeating the Dynamax Pokémon, a Pokémon from your roster can be stationed at the Power Spot. The Pokémon provides you candies based on how often they assist other Pokémon Go players at that location. When the Power Spot ends, the Pokémon returns to you, or you can choose to make this choice manually.

If you want to acquire Dynamax Pokémon and battle them, track down Power Spots. If you don’t see one nearby, continue searching around your local area while playing Pokémon Go, as these landmarks will shift around and appear in different locations. The more Power Spots you find, the more chances you can have for Max Particles and Dynamax Pokémon battles. Make sure you’re working with a friend and other Pokémon Go players to help you, though.
