The Call of Duty Zombies story is seemingly getting more convoluted and wild in Black Ops 6’s new map, Liberty Falls, which got a first-look cinematic teaser this afternoon.
Admittedly, I’m not the most well-versed in CoD Zombies lore, but the stage is set for Liberty Falls to take place on Feb. 18, 1991, featuring none other than Edward Richtofen in what looks like an idyllic West Virginia town that hides a very dark secret.
That dark secret looks like it rears its ugly head in the form of a Zombies takeover of the town that sits above some sort of facility housing what looks like the S.O.P.H.I.A. robot from Black Ops 3 Zombies map Gorod Krovi, but that’s purely speculation. Richtofen arms himself with the Wunderwaffe Wonder Weapon and starts slaying Zombies in the video above, marking the return of a favorite gun.
What’s most interesting, though, is how Richtofen seems to be calling it Sam, which could be in reference to Samantha Maxis. Richtofen is seen being overtaken by some sort of purple smoke, which may mean that Maxis has taken over the Dark Aether and is the driving force behind the map’s events.
One thing is for sure, though: Zombies fans are excited, and they have every right to be. Liberty Falls is one of two round-based maps coming at BO6’s launch, alongside Terminus. With more Zombies experiences coming after launch via seasonal content, it looks to be a great time to be a fan of the mode.
Will Richtofen be one of the playable characters on Liberty Falls? Who else will join him? What are the implications of the overarching Zombies storyline? Soon, more will be unveiled.
The full reveal of Liberty Falls gameplay will take place next week at Call of Duty Next on Aug. 28, which will also showcase BO6 multiplayer, a new Warzone map named Area 99, and reveals for Call of Duty Mobile and Warzone Mobile.
