Take Squid Game on the go with Netflix’s newest mobile game

It's an all out battle.

Netflix is making sure their Korean mega-hit series Squid Game never leaves our minds. And with a new video game coming out, we won’t be forgetting it anytime soon.

Announced today at Gamescom 2024, Squid Game: Unleashed lets players from all over the world compete against each other online in various games inspired by and taken directly from the series, which followed hundreds of financially strapped individuals competing in deadly games in order to win a cash prize. While the series is known for its dark premise where contestants who fail in these games end up dead, the gameplay trailer that was released takes a more light-hearted approach thanks to its cel-shaded art style and rag-doll physics the playable characters have whenever they get hit.

The game’s official website also released some screenshots for the game, giving fans a preview of how its control and what players can expect. You can create your own character and complete challenges tied to normal gameplay. There are also designated touch controls on each side of the screen for controlling your character. As expected, only a set number of people will be able to pass each game before moving on to the next round.

Unfortunately, Netflix didn’t reveal a release date for the upcoming mobile game, so time will tell if fans of the series will be able to get their hands on Squid Game: Unleashed before season two of the series premieres later this year. On top of that, another season of Squid Game: The Challenge is also on the way, which took the premise of the show (minus the death part, obviously) and allowed real people to compete for millions of dollars. With all of these big announcements, the Squid Game franchise looks like Netflix’s cash cow for the foreseeable future.
