Fortnite battle pass exclusivity changes explained

Unfortunately, this doesn't help me get Darth Vader.

On Aug. 7, 2024, Epic Games announced some huge changes to the way the battle pass system works in Fortnite. This is one of the most fundamental features of the game, which means it’s crucial you know all the battle pass exclusivity changes involved.

As of Aug. 7, 2024, all battle pass items can now appear in the shop 18 months after the pass ends. No items are guaranteed to surface in the shop, but it’s now possible for them to after the specified amount of time has passed.

What are the Fortnite battle pass changes?

All of the Fortnite battle pass changes are listed here and are only effective for items released after Aug. 7, 2024.

  • All battle pass items can appear in the shop once 18 months have passed.
  • No battle pass item is guaranteed to appear in the shop, but all of them can.
  • Battle pass items that appear in the shop may include different special variants that were unlockable through the pass each time.
  • Any type of battle pass item can appear in the shop. This includes Outfits, Emotes, Back Blings, Pickaxes, Wraps, Banner Icons, Decals, Loading Screens, and Instruments.
  • Players who already have a battle pass Outfit can purchase alternate styles from the shop when they appear but skins might not always have alternate looks and may have different ones available each time they are released.
  • Items that are unlockable through the Bonus Rewards and Quest Rewards tabs can also appear in the shop.
  • The special secret Outfit and accessories that unlock until a bit after a season begins (Which are skins like Magneto, Korra, and Ahsoka, on past battle passes) can also appear in the shop.

Can Fortnite battle pass items come to the shop?

Before Aug. 7, 2024, no battle pass items could ever come to the shop. But following the announcement from Epic, all future items can now make their way to the shop as long as at least 18 months have passed since they were released.

Will all battle pass items come to the Fortnite item shop?

Any battle pass item released after the announcement can come to the shop in the future after 18 months have passed, but no item is guaranteed to. This means any item you miss could possibly arrive in the shop at a later date but is never guaranteed to do so.

Can old Fortnite battle pass items come to the shop?

As of now, no battle pass items released before Aug. 7, 2024, can come to the shop in Fortnite. This could change in the future, but the battle pass exclusivity announcement only discusses changes moving forward and does not apply to any items released before the announcement.

Is the price of the Fortnite Battle Pass changing?

The price of the battle pass in Fortnite is staying the same, which means it will still cost 950 V-Bucks. You can earn 1,500 V-Bucks back by leveling up throughout the battle pass, so it’s still a really great deal for players who plan to play regularly.

This isn’t the first time Fortnite has seen massive changes to core game functionalities and it likely won’t be the last. There were previously some massive item shop changes on April 9 and the addition of Proximity Chat in certain modes on Aug. 6.
