Free Bright Dust handed out as Destiny 2’s Pathfinder system misses mark… again

How long until we get the full Pathfinder rework?

Bungie is handing out free bundles of Bright Dust in Destiny 2 again after yet another element of The Final Shape‘s Pathfinder bounty system has failed to capture the player base. From restrictive activities to a lack of rewards, it’s becoming very clear the system needs an overhaul.

Destiny 2 players will be able to pick up 350 Bright Dust from Eva Levante each week for the next two-ish months, which will help those wanting to secure a few goodies from Eververse without spending real cash. It’s in response to less-than-expected currency on offer through Pathfinder, the game’s new bounty and challenge system. “Players aren’t earning as much Bright Dust as we expected,” Destiny 2 community lead dmg04 said today.

“We wanted to get ahead of this and issue a make-good to get folks caught up as there were no intentions of reducing XP or Bright Dust earn rates,” he added, noting more details were planned in the game’s weekly blog post, which has then been pushed back around a week due to recent Bungie layoffs on Aug. 2.

It’s yet another fault with Pathfinder, which was hyped by Bungie heading into The Final Shape as the new hub for bounty and rewards. However, feedback regarding the system has been overly poor, with Destiny players hamstrung into completing challenges in activities they don’t particularly want to play and calling it all a waste of time.

Even with the extra freebies, players aren’t happy. “If only we had anything worth spending on,” one player said, noting that, being a Destiny 2 veteran, there’s little in the Bright Dust shop left to buy. Others agreed, pleading with Bungie to move Silver-locked items into the Bright Dust shop. “This is our compensation for being hired as Bungie’s new QA team,” another said.

At the end of the day, there’s nothing wrong with a little extra free Bright Dust. It’s well-timed with the launch of the 2024 Solstice event today meaning players with stocks of the currency (or those closing in on a large total) can snap up those bright new ornaments without needing to grind or open their wallets.
