Creature types are taking over Magic: The Gathering Standard with cute and ferocious animals from Bloomburrow at the digital launch of the set.
The Standard format in MTG is undergoing an overhaul with the launch of Bloomburrow thanks to the first Standard rotation in two years.
All of the decks previewed in this article are from the MTG Arena early access streamer event, in which I had the privilege to participate. Instead of running Standard decks, though, I was discovering the best Bloomburrow Draft and Sealed archetypes. But that’s because I knew the greatest players from around the globe were crafting up wild Standard decks that put my deck-building skills to shame. Rank up the MTG Arena ladder with these amazing Bloomburrow Standard decks thanks to Ashlizzle, MTG Hall of Fame Pro Gabriel Nassif, Jim Davis, and CovertGoBlue.
Ashlizzlle’s Rakdos Lizards Bloomburrow Standard deck
Several Aggro decks will dominate the best-of-one MTG Arena ladder on day one, but I expect to see more Rakdos Lizards than any of them. Flamechache Gecko is a bomb Uncommon, especially when played on Curve with a bunch of two drops in your hand. The ping damage is also wild, preventing most decks from being able to recover.
Nassif’s Orzhov Bat Aggro Bloomburrow Standard deck
For those who aren’t familiar with Gabriel Nassif as a Kai Budde Player of the Year, the MTG Hall of Fame player is known for taking his time during a match. So it’s somewhat ironic to see him craft a powerful Aggro deck like Orzhov Bats. Ruin-Lurker Bat is the one-drop all-star special in the build, and Zoraline, Cosmos Caller is the Rare bomb that holds the deck together.
Jim Davis Otter Storm combo Bloomburrow Standard deck
I’ve been a huge Jim Davis fan for more years than I can count. The Otter Storm build from Davis is a spinoff of a deck Jason Ye was playing during the MTG Arena early access event. The deck is built around Stormsplitter in conjunction with Beseech the Mirror, Reenact the Crime, and Twinferno. I’d attempt to explain it, but Davis does a much better job.
CovertGoBlue Selesnya Rabbits Bloomburrow Standard deck
Rabbits are cute—until you’re facing them in MTG Arena best-of-one Ranked. The go-wide deck combines the best bunnies that didn’t rotate out of Standard with new cards like Seasoned Warrenguard, Pawpatch Recruit, Valley Mightcaller (not a Rabbit but has Rabbit synergy), and my favorite card in Bloomburrow—Valley Questcaller.
Start crafting and ranking up the MTG Arena ladder with these Standard decks starting on July 30. If you’re interested in playing Bloomburrow Limited, take a moment to sign up for MTG Madness and get an exclusive breakdown and grading of every card in the set with notes.
