Super Smash Con has more Smash 4 attendees than Evo—and it’s still growing

Just how big will the event get?

Super Smash Con is a massive Nintendo fan event dedicated to all things Smash Bros. The event caters to the battle-hardened Smash players, casual players, and fans of the games and has been growing in popularity over the years.

This year’s event takes place in Chantilly, Virginia from Aug. 10 to 13, and 1,527 attendees have signed up to try and beat some of the best Smash Bros. players from around the world and take the crown. Evo only managed to get 1,508 entrants for its event, down 40 percent from the previous year.

Smash Bros. for Wii U isn’t the only Smash Bros. title on offer, with tournaments held for Smash Bros. Melee, Smash Bros. Brawl, and the original Smash Bros. for N64.

Sign-ups to compete have now officially closed, but fans can still buy a weekend pass from the convention’s official smash.gg page in order to watch their favorite players compete in the singles and doubles tournaments for all four games.

The Super Smash Con tournaments give players a chance to face off against some of the game’s biggest stars, such as TSM’s Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios and Team Liquid’s Juan “Hungrybox” Manuel Debiedma.

Those looking forward to seeing Alliance’s number one ranked Smash Melee player Adam “Armada” Lindgren will be disappointed, however, as the player has decided to sit this year’s convention out.
