CLG outclassed by Cloud9 to go 0-2 this weekend in the LCS

In both losses, CLG had a 10,000 gold deficit.

CLG had a very rough weekend in the League of Legends Championship Series. It started with a challenging match against TSM where CLG ended the game with only three kills and down 10,000 gold. In CLG’s second game of the weekend against Cloud9, it only got worse.

Despite giving up first blood to Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes, Cloud9 quickly regained composure and hardly let up. After Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam died on Alistar, CLG overextended pressure on Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi under turret. Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer teleported to a ward in the side brush on the bottom lane and picked up a double kill on CLG’s ADC and jungler.

The miscues continued for CLG with a fight over dragon later on in the game. After Cloud9 was zoned away from the dragon pit, the team reengaged when Raymond “Wiggily” Griffin tried to dive Zeyzal with Jarvan IV. On Sivir, Sneaky quickly picked up a pair of kills furthering Cloud9’s momentum. After that, C9 had no issues clearing objectives against CLG.

By the 25-minute mark, Cloud9 had killed all four dragons, taken a pair of CLG’s inhibitors, and held an 8-1 kill advantage. At that point, Cloud9 had little trouble closing the game out against a struggling CLG team. Sneaky finished the game leading Cloud9 with six kills and one death. As a team, Cloud9 only gave up four kills to CLG—with two of them coming as the result of a fountain dive at the very end of the game.

In CLG’s 0-2 weekend, both games were finished in under 28 minutes, they were outslayed 21-7, and they trailed in both matches by more than 10,000 gold. No one really predicted CLG’s midseason collapse—after all, they beat Cloud9 earlier this season. But things won’t get much easier for CLG next weekend. After a match against FlyQuest, CLG will face first-place Team Liquid.
