LoL players agree on the most ‘meaningless’ champions

Purely from a lore perspective.

There are 165 champions in League of Legends, each with a unique backstory and lore that often intertwines with other characters creating a connected universe. There are a few exceptions though, with champions who don’t affect the lore of Runeterra in any way whatsoever.

On Oct. 24, League players agreed on champions that have no impact on the game’s lore. Unlike champions with deep stories like Jinx or Azir, they could be removed and nothing would change at all. According to the community, the ultimate meaningless champion is Shaco.

Shaco doesn’t really have any lore, we only know he is an enchanted marionette and used to be “a plaything for a lonely prince” until he got corrupted by dark magic and the “loss of his beloved charge.” Now all he does is kill and hysterically laugh from committing homicide.

Fans all seem to like the fact Shaco has no lore though because it fits the character. “He’s just a random entity that no one understands. He’s part of nothing, of no species, of no faction or nation. He just…is,” is how one player described him.

Another champion who serves little to no purpose is the terror of the Void, Cho’Gath. As many noted, Cho’Gath’s story doesn’t even talk about it but rather describes the Void and the nature of that place. The story briefly mentions Cho’Gath and says it is perhaps a greatly intelligent creature that feeds on the Void’s prey.

Players started seeing Cho’Gath not as a physical character, but more as an idea of the Void and how dangerous it is. “To be fair, Chogath is basically world-ending stuff, I don’t think he is a character that can actually appear on the lore just like that,” one fan wrote.

Some pointed out Cho’Gath can have a great impact on the lore and Riot might be saving it for something special. I loved the suggestion that if we ever get an MMO set in Runeterra, there should be a cataclysm-type event from WoW to introduce Cho’Gath and the rest of the Void at its full strength.
