One of the most popular strategy franchises of all time, Civilization, may finally be on the verge of getting a new sequel, an accidental clue shared by Firaxis Games suggests.
The developer is hiring a senior manager, according to a new job posting, with the role requiring a particular knowledge of the Civilization franchise.
The post, uploaded on Oct. 23, reads: “…the ideal candidate will have a wealth of knowledge about the Firaxis portfolio of titles, especially Civilization, with previous experience in one or more of the following areas: consumer insights and data analytics, game development, product management.”
This could be an early hint at what Firaxis is working on behind the scenes, seeing as nothing has been officially confirmed at the time of writing.
The job posting goes on to mention a potential new Civilization game even more directly, suggesting the advertised position will work with the team of Firaxis developers “…to ensure we have the right product features and plans to ensure Civilization’s continued reign as the best strategy game on Earth.”
Now, if that isn’t a real kicker, I don’t really know what is.
Civilization is, indeed, one of the best 4X and strategy franchises ever created, just like the Firaxis listing is claiming. Starting all the way back in 1991, the franchise laid the foundation for many strategy games and franchises over the next three decades. Its leading role in the strategy game market is one that’s hard to uphold, seeing as there are so many new and exciting RTS, 4X, and grand strategy games out there.
From Crusader Kings 3 to Europa Universalis IV to the Total War franchise, the competition is pretty heated. So, whoever gets that coveted spot at Firaxis working on Civilization 7, or at least another Civilization instalment, is up for a lot of work.
We’re going to hold our breaths waiting to see what the game will be.
