True Colors is the companion quest for Zhezhi added in Wuthering Waves’ 1.2 update, and sees you solving a thrilling case of art forgery to help a shy painter regain her confidence.
Here’s everything you need to know about completing the True Colors quest in Wuthering Waves.
Zhezhi True Colors companion quest Guide
To start the True Colors Companion quest in Wuthering Waves, you must go to the Pioneer Association on the western side of Jinzhou. You need to complete the first part of the Moon-chasing festival quest to unlock the True Colors quest, however.
Once you’re at the gate, you should receive a call from Zhezhi asking you to meet her at the Public Security Bureau for a dispute hearing regarding the coercion of a painter named Mingyan to create forged paintings that were sold as real by Shanyun Art Exchange. To reach the Public Security Bureau, teleport to Jinzhou’s Grand Library and go to your left to meet with Zhezhi.
Once the hearing starts, Zhezhi gets overwhelmed by Baichi, the head of the Shanyun Art Exchange. He defends his business and says the company has not been dealing with fake art pieces, as per the accusation. He further praises the quality of his works and claims Zhezhi is slandering his company’s reputation. You step in as Rover to recollect the events that led to these accusations to the judge as you work with Zhehzi on the case, and help her hold her nerves. The game goes back in time as you need to find evidence to defend Zhezhi in court.
During the investigation, you come across the name of an Arcane Artist whose paintings are so vivid they seem to come to life with every brushstroke. At this point, you need to interview two witnesses here to proceed with the quest.
You meet with Zhehzi, then meet Shilang at the Tiger Maw mine, who gives you a tip about the ore people. After that, you have to meet with Chixia, who takes you to a site with Mingyan—who is supposedly behind everything. You need to fight a few TDs along your way.
After that, you and Zhehzi go to Mingyan’s studio in Taoyuan Vale. Once you enter the place, you should find many clues to investigate, and it’ll slowly show you that Mingyan was trying hard to copy a painting to sell it to someone. The steps near the window are the last clue in the scene, which will lead you directly to the Exiles’ camp. While the Exiles initially say they’re not involved with the paintings, you quickly determine they are lying to you.
Now, you’ll have two options: Either eavesdrop on their conversation or beat them up like pancakes to get the truth. Both options reveal these people are working for Baichi and pretending to be Exiles while Mingyan works for them to make duplicates of famous paintings to sell, and when she tries too hard to copy the art, the forgeries are clocked for what they are. After this, choose the Disguise as Exiles option and infiltrate their camps to secure evidence and a voice note from Baichi. You’ll find the evidence near the barrels and boxes near the campfire. For the voice note, you need to jump down and find another set of boxes.
Later, Zhezhi recollects her childhood when her parents sold her paintings for profit and made ill use of her Forte skill, as the worst in people’s imagination came true through nightmares. After that incident, she painted her last painting, “Serenity in Xiehua Village” to put an end to these nightmares, and revealed that she was the Arcane Artist all along. To prove this skill, she went ahead and painted for the last time in the court—where you’ll need to fight the Mourning Aix: Lamenting Shadow boss using Zhezhi’s ability.
