  • Hint 1: The answer is the job role of someone who parks cars at hotels or restaurants.
  • Hint 2: The five-letter solution is a French term for a personal servant.
  • Hint 3: It starts with the letter “V.”
  • Hint 4: The solution has two vowels and usually expects a tip after using the service.

Let’s park the vehicle and reveal the answer.

Did you see it coming? The answer to one down in the Sept. 18 New York Times Mini Crossword is “VALET.” The clue refers to a person who is a “Pro at Parking.” A valet’s job is to park and retrieve cars for guests at hotels, restaurants, or events.

DID YOU KNOW?

The word “valet” comes from the French term “valet de chambre,” meaning a servant responsible for the upkeep of an employer’s personal belongings. Over time, it became associated with parking services.

‘Parking Pro’ NYT Mini Crossword difficulty rating

When you think of a person who is a professional at parking, you usually would think of a person who does it for a living. That should directly lead to valet. So, I’d give it a two out of five for difficulty.
