PUBG’s final patch before the big 1.0 update is now live

This is kind of like the calm before the storm.

With yesterday’s news that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ long-anticipated vaulting and climbing update is coming in the next few weeks, today’s update saw some lesser changes to help prepare for the big launch.

The 1.0 update will launch soon alongside the Xbox Game Preview build for the Xbox One, and it will bring huge changes to the game, like vaulting, 3D replays, and the game’s new desert map.

Today, though, brought a much smaller patch that focuses on bug fixes and optimizations. The main feature of today’s minor update is that PUBG Corp. has “decreased the starting island item spawn levels in order to adjust the item balance on the Northeast side of Erangel.”

An uncommon practice is to jump out of the plane and find a boat, so you can immediately head to the spawn island in the far Northeast corner of the map. Apparently, the loot there would skew the loot table in nearby areas, so this update fixes that.

A couple of bug fixes came with the update as well, including the elimination of the fire animation and effect that would occur in the starting airplane when a player was on fire from a molotov cocktail. This means you won’t see a trail of flames out of the back of the airplane anymore.

As of now, the next time your Steam client prepares a large update download for PUBG, it will bring some of the game’s most wished for features, and 2017’s biggest game will be that much closer to a full launch.
