As part of this week’s early access update, first person-only servers are now available for Squad games in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Since first person perspective (FPP) games were added in last week’s monthly update, the games were only available in Solo and Duo games on the NA and EU servers. Today, FPP expands to four person Squad games on NA, EU, and Asia servers.
The PUBG community has been highly receptive to FPP games, with many hailing it for its more hardcore approach to the battle royale genre. From a viewer’s standpoint, though, it’s been shown that people are relatively split on the choice between first and third person.
Last week, it was revealed that Twitch viewers watched 60 million hours of PUBG in July, and the game recently passed 500,000 concurrent players on Steam.
Later this month, PUBG will get its first taste of esports at the gamescom PUBG Invitational, where teams like TSM, Cloud9, and Team Liquid will be competing. It’s unclear if FPP Squad games will be played at the event, but there will be Solo, Duo, Squad, and FPP Duo events.
