FaZe Clan has acquired Gorilla Core Esports’ PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds roster just over a week before the team is scheduled to compete at IEM Oakland, the organization announced today.
Gorilla Core was one of the top teams in EU PUBG, and was one of the 12 invited teams taking part in next weekend’s $200,000 Invitational. FaZe’s new roster consists of Max “MeTor” Lion, Anssi “mxey” Pekkonen, Jere “Jembty” Kauppinen, and Adrian “Haxete” Blom.
“We’ve been looking into games that we are enjoying and believing in,” FaZe said in its announcement. “We believe PUBG is one of them and as a first step; we are entering the esports side of the game. PUBG being a new esports [sic] means that the key is to work with the players that have intense drive to put in hours required combined with to [sic] focus to progress every single day. Then the talent will put you over the top. Gorilla Core got that.”
FaZe will go up against other PUBG teams like TSM, Luminosity, Cloud9, and Team Liquid, as 20 total teams will fight for a $200,000 prize pool in the first-person Squads event.
IEM Oakland kicks off next Saturday, Nov. 18, with a total of eight matches played over two days to decide which team will walk away as champions.
