Overwatch lore is expanding following the release of a previously unpublished letter by Torbjörn.

Earlier this week, Blizzard posted a cryptic message to the Overwatch Twitter account—and many fans thought it could be hinting at the game’s next hero or event.

This post was a declassified report about Operation “White Dome,” which was “a routine Overwatch mission that went off the rails when the team was ambushed by omnics, resulting in Reinhardt coming to the rescue of a severely injured Torbjörn.”

After he was saved, Torbjörn wrote a letter to his wife, Ingrid—and this letter was revealed earlier today.

In the letter, Torbjörn talks about his arm, and tells his wife that it’ll be his “first priority to construct a suitable prosthesis that will make everyone forget that it was ever gone.” Torbjörn also informs Ingrid that Reinhardt saved his life, and that he told Reinhardt he can name the couple’s unborn daughter.

“Truth be told, I had been considering making him her godfather, and I hope you’ll forgive me for making this decision without your consultation,” Torbjörn wrote. “We can only hope she doesn’t take after him too much.”

It’s likely that Brigitte Lindholm, who is Torbjörn’s daughter and a major part of Reinhardt’s story, could be the goddaughter that Reinhardt got to name.

The letter serves to provide extra lore about Torbjörn and Reinhardt. On its surface, it has little to do with a potential new Overwatch hero—but it’ll probably come full circle if a new hero is announced.
