No, Moira didn’t get nerfed already

The change on the Overwatch PTR is a bug.

Moira didn’t get a nerf on the Overwatch PTR—but fans sure think she did.

When the Blizzard World patch hit the PTR, players noticed that it was much harder to target other players while using Moira’s Biotic Grasp. But according to lead software engineer Tim Ford, it’s a bug, not a feature. The issue is an unintended side effect from a change that was supposed to make her targeting feel better.

“On the PTR, we made a number of improvements to the mechanism that Moira uses to select a target,” Ford wrote on the Overwatch forum. “Now players can more accurately select a target when multiple targets are in the field of view, and the new system can better discern which target is closest to the player’s reticle when multiple targets are valid.”

The mechanism uses a “different functionality” than the original system, which didn’t convert properly for a few heroes. “Generally, the larger heroes are a little harder to target, while the smaller heroes are much closer to her original behavior,” Ford said. The training bots are the worst offenders, he added.

Blizzard will test a new configuration on the Overwatch PTR “late this week or early next,” Ford said.

So don’t worry, newly minted Moira mains. The Talon healer isn’t getting a nerf just yet.
