If the Overwatch community didn’t have enough issues with Brigitte, some eagle-eyed PTR players have found a new one to add to the list.
After the March 6 update to the Public Test Ream (PTR), some Reddit users have realized that Brigitte’s shield won’t break when it reaches 0 HP. All shields in Overwatch, from Orisa’s to Reinhardt’s, will “break” after the health of the shield is gone. At that point, players have to put up another shield or wait for a set amount of time for the shield to recharge.
Numerous Reddit users have asked about the problem and a few have additional clips proving its existence and the issues that the bug creates. This clip from FiestaOW shows that the shield won’t break at 0 HP and also won’t recharge after breaking and being “put away.” Another clip shows that Brigitte’s Shield Bash won’t function.
Another Reddit user posted an illuminating clip of Brigitte’s shield being shot at in real time. The shield takes damage as usual, but doesn’t disappear (or break) when it runs out of health.
Brigitte’s shield, and especially her Shield Bash ability, are key parts of her kit. Her ability to stun enemies out of ultimates with her Shield Bash and protect her teammates is a contributing factor to her popularity in high-level team compositions, such as the triple-triple that’s run in the Overwatch League.
Luckily, this is only a glitch that’s affecting the PTR at the moment, likely due to the expansive changes enacted on March 6. Thanks to users reporting the bug, there’s a low likelihood that it will be an issue on the live servers. For those playing games on the PTR, this could lead to a very quick loss—so be careful in those Quick Play games.
Update March 8 5:30pm CT: Blizzard has enacted a fix for the Brigitte shield bug on PTR as of March 8.
