Baptiste is the newest Overwatch hero. So what’s he play like?
Well, right now, we don’t officially know. So far, all we have is the hero reveal trailer Blizzard published yesterday with his background story and some images of him. That’s not enough to say we’re sure about how playing with Baptiste in Overwatch will be like, but we have enough hints to make a few educated guesses.
Baptiste is a combat medic, according to his origin story. The very description of his role in the wars he fought might be a hint that he’s a mix between a DPS and a support character, like Zenyatta, or that he at least has offensive tools against opponents while being primarily a support hero, like Ana.
Baptiste’s weapon seems to be a rifle, and we haven’t seen any secondary weapon so far. Players might see a hero who has a primary shot that deals damage with a secondary shot that either heals allies or has a negative effect on opponents, like Ana’s Biotic Grenades. We can see Baptiste holds some kind of healing object in his hand in the end of his origin story, which could either be ammo for his secondary shot in his rifle or one of his abilities.
Baptiste’s abilities are a huge question mark. One of them might have something to do with his visor, but there’s no way to confirm it at the moment.
We will only be sure of Baptiste’s gameplay and mechanics once his abilities and gameplay video are released, or when he is added to the Overwatch PTR this week. We’re not sure when this will happen, but it shouldn’t take long since we already know he is coming to the game.
