Starry Studios has absolutely no intention of introducing any alternate first-person modes in Once Human, despite how much players have begged recently.
One of the most highly-requested modes players have been asking for in Once Human is a first-person “FPS” mode. Many have requested the variety because they think it would make the experience more immersive. While it would be an incredible addition, Starry has quickly moved to snuff out the hype, confirming the team has “no plans to add a first-person perspective to the game at present” in a Discord statement this week.
The Once Human devs did concede first-person features aren’t off the table entirely though, as spotted by VGC, adding they would now “consider adding first-person elements into future scenarios”—if it suits.
Starry didn’t say anything further on what those first-person elements would look like, but the fact they haven’t wholly overlooked players’ requests is promising.
The team’s overall stance is fairly unsurprising; adding any FPS options would be more challenging than simply introducing a toggle players can switch on or off mid-lobby. The post-apocalyptic game was designed with a third-person perspective in mind, and introducing a first-person perspective will conflict with the game’s vibe.
Given how the game broke after its first update on July 18, it’s probably a wise choice by the devs not to introduce a mode that would most likely break Once Human again.
Not everyone was on board with the FPS calls either. Many players would love to see it added, but some—especially those who’ve already forked out cash for costumes and skins—feared they would no longer be able to see cosmetics.
Until we hear more from the devs, we’ll have to wait and see how they’ll introduce first-person elements. For now though, third-person is going to have to do.
