Don’t expect anything from Overwatch at E3, says Jeff Kaplan

With the 2017 Electronics and Entertainment Expo (E3) just around the corner, the hype is beginning to build. That hype only grew over the past few days surrounding Overwatch, after comments from actor Terry Crews made headlines.

Fans quickly began to speculate that the much-anticipated Doomfist hero would be coming during E3 this June. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan swiftly rained on the hype parade today, though, with a simple forum post comment. The thread asked what to expect from the game at E3, and Kaplan’s answer made a lot of people very sad.

“While we totally appreciate the enthusiasm, the Overwatch team won’t be attending E3 or announcing anything at the show this year,” said Kaplan.

While this takes some wind from the hype surrounding Crews’ announcement, this doesn’t mean that there won’t be something cool for Overwatch in June. Blizzard has kept up a torrid pace of content releases since the game came out last May, and it expects to keep up with that schedule for the foreseeable future.

This year alone has seen a lot of releases. January was the Year of the Rooster event, March saw the release of the game’s 24th hero Orisa, and April has seen Overwatch’s best event yet in Uprising. This pace gives everyone reason to believe that something should be coming in June or shortly after, even if the team from Blizzard won’t be at E3.

With the game’s many successes, it’s safe to believe that consistent content drops will continue on for a long time to come.
