Just a few moments ago, Astralis revealed on their website that Danish player Finn “karrigan” Andersen has been benched from their lineup. Karrigan’s replacement was announced to be the Danish youngster Anton “notaN” Pedersen, a 16-year-old player who has been given the chance of a lifetime playing with seasoned players such as Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz.Â
The change in personnel comes after a rough period for Astralis, where they endured much criticism for the results they displayed that didn’t do their players’ talent justice. Just recently, Astralis failed to reach even the quarterfinals of the WESG 2016 European Finals, following a 2-1 defeat to the Swedish team GODSENT. While their placing at WESG was less than ideal, it is only the tip of Astralis’ iceberg of poor form.Â
The new member of the player-owned organization, Pendersen, has yet to prove himself on an international level, though one can hardly blame him given his age. It will be interesting to see whether the arrival of some young blood to one of the world’s most talented lineups on paper will help revive the once-monsterous team that was Astralis.
Astralis will presumably play with notaN tonight, in their double fixture against G2 in the fourth season of ESL’s Pro League.
