Marvel Snap giving away sassy Deadpool emote for free to compensate for Leagues exploit

Everybody loves something free, especially when it's Deadpool-related.

An exploit that’s been compromising Marvel Snap’s new Leagues feature is causing the game’s developer at Second Dinner to give away top rewards for free, the company announced today.

Snap’s first iteration of Leagues, themed around Deadpool and an emote featuring the Merc with a Mouth, places 30 players into a leaderboard together for a set period of time (two days for this one). The higher you place in your League, the better rewards you can get. But a win-trading technique has basically ruined it for everyone.

Marvel Snap players quickly found out they could go into the Proving Grounds rank of Conquest mode and trade retreats back and forth with other players. Losing a retreat means only a reduction of 25 points, while your opponent retreating rewards you with 125 points.

In short, players were queuing into Proving Grounds to retreat back and forth and both leave with 500 points without actually playing the game. Because of this, many individual League leaderboards have been inflated.

For example, my own personal League has the top player at 24,000 points in just over a day of playing, while the second-place player doesn’t even have 10,000 yet. And so Second Dinner is aiming to make things right.

“We’re aware of an exploit that has compromised the competitive integrity of the Leagues,” Second Dinner said. “Due to this issue, we’ll be rewarding ALL League participants the Deadpool Emote and one Neon Blue Border. All other League rewards will be awarded based on final standing when Deadpool League ends.”

Rewarding participants with one border and the Deadpool emote, which previously was only meant to go to the top three players in each League, is a solid compromise. When a new League begins in two weeks, Second Dinner aims to have a solution ready.
