The top team in European League of Legends has suffered its second loss of the season. SK Gaming shockingly took down G2 Esports today to improve their playoff chances in the 2019 LEC Spring Split.
G2 were actually pretty far ahead in the early stages of the game. Twenty-three minutes into the match, G2 picked up their first Baron. And just one minute later, G2 held about an 8,000 gold lead, had an 18-12 advantage in kills, and took down SK’s middle inhibitor.
But it seemed like G2 began to disrespect SK after getting such a massive lead. Following several botched teamfights by G2, Juš “Crownshot” Marušič and Jorge “Werlyb” Casanovas Moreno-Torres came online on Jinx and Poppy.
A game that looked decided by 20 minutes ultimately came down to a base race that fell in favor of SK. Crownshot finished the match with 10 kills on Jinx, earning himself Player of the Game honors. But Werlyb also had an impressive game on Poppy—his ability to zone out key G2 players during teamfights helped SK claw back into the game.
With this win, SK now sit at 7-7, while G2 still sit atop the league at 12-2. G2 will look to bounce back next week when they take on Splyce at 11am CT on March 8. SK, on the other hand, will look to extend their win streak against Origen at 1pm CT.
