Cloud9 and Unicorns of Love will head to San Jose in December for the Intel Extreme Masters.
The two teams won a fan vote designed to introduce the next two teams to the League of Legends tournament lineup that already includes League Championship Series regional champions Team SoloMid and Alliance.
Cloud9 may have lost their NA LCS title to Team SoloMid last season, but they’re the most dominant American team of the year and will gain a chance to take revenge on their American rivals.
Unicorns of Love is the newest team in the European LCS. The challenger squad upset Millenium 3-2 in the Spring Promotion tournament to break into the professional ranks, and now they’ll have a chance to test their mettle against the best teams in the West.
Cloud9 received 41.7 percent of the vote, beating out the 34.2 percent mark for Curse Gaming, fans excited to see how blockbuster pickup Chae “Piglet” Gwang-jin fits into the Curse lineup.
Unicorns of Love managed to take 47.9 percent of the vote, beating out an SK Gaming team that likely has some blockbuster transactions in their future.
The eight-team tournament also features four teams from Brazil and Latin America, starting on December 6.
