Two weeks after his NA LCS return, FlyQuest support Kevin Kwon has been moved down to the team’s academy roster, FlyQuest General Manager Nick Phan announced via Twitter today.
In Kwon’s stead, FlyQuest will be starting its academy support Juan “JayJ” Guibert, who first joined the organization at the end of 2017. “We like what both players bring to the table, but feel that it’s worth exploring what JayJ’s voice adds to the starting squad, now that he’s fully healthy,” Phan explained in his tweet. This is the first time FlyQuest has mentioned JayJ’s health. Phan gave no further details on the topic.
Formerly a support for Team Liquid during the 2017 Summer Split, Kwon was absent from competitive play for the duration of the 2018 Spring Split. In his competitive absence, Kwon worked alongside TSM as their translator for the team’s Korean coaching staff. While working as TSM’s translator, Kwon reached rank eight on the North American solo queue ladder.
JayJ on the other hand has spent the entire 2018 season as FlyQuest Academy’s starting support. During his time on the academy roster, JayJ helped his team win the Academy League’s inaugural split, beating Echo Fox Academy in the finals. JayJ was previously substituted into FlyQuest’s LCS roster twice during the Spring Split, but lost both games he participated in.
FlyQuest is currently tied for last place in the NA LCS with Cloud9, who have also been experimenting with their 10-man roster. FlyQuest’s first win of the Summer Split came on Sunday when they beat OpTic Gaming in a messy 40-minute game.
Kwon will make his Academy League debut tonight when FlyQuest Academy face off against Clutch Gaming Academy and later Team Liquid Academy.
