Europe’s best League of Legends team has a new name—Elements.
The team formerly known as Alliance has rebranded after a new Riot Games sponsorship rule forced Goodgame agency to relinquish the Alliance label.
The squad that placed atop the European League Championship Series last Summer will now be known as Elements, featuring a pentagon logo colored for earth, wind, water, and fire.
“After finalizing our roster for the 2015 season, we have been hard at work trying to figure out how to identify ourselves for the years to come,” Elements owner Jacob “Maelk” Toft-Andersen, labelling himself as the “elementor,” said. “In the search of a name, it was important to us that it reflected both strength and versatility as well as synergy.”
He styled the players as forces of nature in the cheesy reveal, comparing Patrick “Nyph” Funke to water, Henrik “Froggen” Hansen to air, Ilyas “Shook” Hartsema to fire, and Martin “Rekkles” Larsson and Mike “Wickd” Petersen to earth and iron.
“While each player is a force of nature in his own right, we will only truly achieve greatness once we all come together,” Toft-Andersen said.
And yes. By their powers combined, Toft-Andersen really is… Captain Planet.
Childhood dream fulfilled.
In addition to a new name, the team will also have a new head coach. Toft-Andersen is bringing in his old Dota coach Martin “PusH” Mogensen to head the team. Mogense has vast experience in Dota, even coaching Toft-Andersen’s own The International squad Meet Your Makers in 2011.
Elements is the second Goodgame-branded LCS team to rebrand in as many days. Yesterday, the team playing under the Evil Geniuses brand unveiled its new name, Winterfox.
The community’s collective take on the new names can be summed up in this succinct tweet:
lol, indeed.
