100 Thieves steal a win from Cloud9

The Spring Split finalists were given an inch and took a mile.

100 Thieves took a win away from Cloud9 on Sunday after being at a gold deficit for most of the game.

The match began heavily in Cloud9’s favor, with top laner Eric “Licorice” Ritchie picking up first blood over Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho’s Aartox.

Licorice snowballed his lead on Fiora, solo killing Ssumday again later in the game. He was unstoppable in the side lanes and was a major reason why his team jumped out to an early start. Ssumday was bullied the entire game and couldn’t have a giant impact like he did in Saturday’s game against FlyQuest.

Unfortunately for Licorice, the rest of his team was unable to capitalize on the pressure he exerted. While mid laner Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer continued to look like one of the best in the league, his supporting staff was simply not up to par. Marksman Yuri “Keith” Jew was constantly out of position on Xayah and looked outclassed by Thieves ADC Cody Sun, even giving up a solo kill during the laning phase. Cloud9 jungler Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen also looked shaky on Sejuani, missing key ultimates that allowed 100 Thieves to come out ahead in fights.

One bad fight led to another, and the Thieves stormed through Cloud9’s base after taking their second Baron buff of the game.

The Spring Split finalists started the summer season with two losses, but with this victory over Cloud9 today, they’ve evened out with two wins this week. 100 Thieves will try to extend that streak against Clutch Gaming next week.

Cloud9, on the other hand, have continued to struggle. While Licorice looked much more comfortable on Fiora, a splitpush carry, he still had questionable decision-making, and Keith and Svenskeren need to step up if the team wants to find a win over TSM next week.
