How to open the stone cat door in Crypt Custodian

This post-game puzzle is a bit of a head-scratcher.

The stone cat door in The Edge is one of Crypt Custodian’s final secrets. You can only open it in the post-game, and it requires a certain set of equips to unlock.

The game gives you very few clues for this conundrum, much like the floor light puzzle. When you approach the door, you’ll notice cat statues line the area in front of it, and since you’ve reached this point in the game, some of the statues will more than likely have their eyes lit up. It took me several attempts to unlock the door, but after staring at the puzzle for longer than I’d like to admit, I finally figured it out.

If you’d like a bit of a nudge in the right direction but don’t want a full spoiler, I’ll give you a hint: I unequipped all of my Upgrades in a last-ditch attempt for clues—and was surprised when I actually got one. Without any Upgrades equipped, none of the statue’s eyes lit up.

For those who are still scratching your heads, here’s how you open the stone cat door in Crypt Custodian.

The grid pattern on the floor in front of the door corresponds to your Upgrade list, which is in the same eight-by-four arrangement. If you equip Upgrades in corresponding statue locations in the grid, the statues’ eyes will light up, as shown in the video below.

You need 68 Upgrade Points to equip all of the Upgrades needed to light up the statues’ eyes. Additionally, you’ll need to have found all of the 16 Upgrades that must be equipped, including Bigger Buffer, the bottom-left-most Upgrade that can only be unlocked after beating the game. Here are the locations of all the Upgrades you need to have equipped, organized left to right by row, to open the stone cat door.

  • Heart Capsule: Purchased for 3,200 Garbage at The Sinner’s Inn.
  • Spirit Buffer: Purchased for 900 Garbage at The Sinner’s Inn.
  • All Seeing Eye: Weeping Wastes, to the right of where Grizz is digging a path into the Palace.
  • Slime Scrapper: Purchased for 6,000 Garbage at The Sinner’s Inn.
  • Better Broom: Purchased for 4,300 Garbage at The Sinner’s Inn.
  • Hopping Hazard: Pearl’s Shrine, behind a gate in the middle of the area, reached by using the dig ability.
  • Quick Draw: Neon Crest, three rooms south of the shrine closest to Mira’s Basement.
  • Whirling Reaper: In a chest that requires you to kill a horde of enemies without taking damage in an eastern room of Sculptor’s Peak.
  • Quick Foot: Purchased for 2,600 Garbage at The Sinner’s Inn.
  • Flawless Bounty: Sculptor’s Peak, two rooms east of the easternmost shrine.
  • Bigger Buffer: Spawns in The Sinner’s Inn after you defeat the game.
  • Hoarder’s Reward: Received from the giant Spirit Cat after rescuing five Spirits.
  • Quick Block: Behind a puzzle gate in a room in between the two Frosty Ridge shrines.
  • Final Flurry: The Back, in the room west of the area’s first shrine. Use the dirt-dig ability after defeating The Imposter to get there.
  • Steady Flurry: Reward for saving all 20 Cat Spirits.
  • Super Slam: In a chest southeast of the west Frosty Ridge shrine.

I won’t spoil what’s on the other side of the door, but I would recommend you venture into the room if you’re interested in completing Crypt Custodian’s story!
