Whisper of the Old Gods will bring 134 new cards to the game in a set that includes some new mechanics for Hearthstone.

Four legendary characters, the “Old Gods,” will be part of the expansion: C’Thun, Yogg-Saron, N’Zoth and Y’Shaarj. While nothing has been revealed about the other three, C’Thun is a powerful 10-mana creature who can be buffed by 16 other cards from the set even while the card is still in your deck.

When the expansion goes live, every player who logs in during the launch period will get C’Thun automatically added to their collection, as well as receive three Old Gods packs for free.

The new “Standard” and “Wild” formats, with Standard becoming the default competitive format with a restricted card pool, will also launch around the same time. A significant number of existing cards will also be modified in a balance patch when Standard is released—details of these changes will be released nearer to the patch date.

Some of the new user interface associated with the formats, along with nine new slots for storing decks, will arrive in a patch on Monday. That will give players a glimpse of how different Hearthstone will look going forward.
