This Week in Hearthstone

Summing up Week 51 of 2015

Recommended Videos

Hello fellow Hearthstone players. I have decided to write a second weekly article talking about what I saw in Hearthstone and maximizing my playing time. The focus of this article will be maximizing play time. I will inform how I best used my two hours of play per day for seven days’ worth of gaming, how to achieve my rule of thumb to average one pack a day or seven packs for the week. I always make the seven but I have earned as many as fourteen for one week depending on the quests and depending on what is good in the Meta that week. I try to play my non gold hero’s to one win each day but this is little tougher to do in two hours but I make to get a least one rank win with as many as I can. I will give some comments on Focus cards of this week and where I used them and the reasoning behind. I will give numbers on what I faced, win rates, and the main deck I used for the week to accomplish the quests. I will still continue writing my Tavern Brawl article weekly.

Maximizing Time

What do I mean by maximizing time? Getting the most I can in the shortest time in game. I like you guys have family and other responsibilities. I utilize quests of course, Tavern Brawl, rank play and casual play. The ability to get thirty wins which equates to one hundred gold is the toughest but do able in that short time. I usually get a spectator quest twice a week which helps for the pack goal. The goal is one hundred gold per day to get a pack. I usually get the most wins in the Tavern brawl as it is more or a level playing field and concede happens a lot in this format including some of my own. The reason for me doing it is time. I can usually tell in the first few turns if I can win, or no chance at winning even though I realize the tables can change midgame but when it comes to time I take the quickest route.

Pack Purchases

I usually do not but packs with real money unless there is an expansion of packs, challenges or some kind of deal like this month which had 50 packs for 49.99 which was a good deal to me. I use the gold earned every day to buy at least one pack a day. The high lights of the 50 packs for 50 bucks game out with the following cards for me: 1x gold Leroy jenkins, 1x gold illidan stormrage, 1x gold prophet velen, 1x gold divine favor, 1x gold circle of healing, 1x gold sense demons, 1x gold bloodsail corsair, 1x gold ancient watcher, 1x gold mogushan warden, and 1x gold sunwalker my best pull of the lot in my opinion. This lot generated 4105 dust which was also good in my opinion. That is the highest dust I have gotten from a 50 pack lot to which I usually get in the 3000 range for dust. So all in was a nice pull of packs for me.

Deck List

The deck I played the most this week for challenges was a version of the Shaman face deck. I usually start with a recommended deck from Hearthstone player’s dot com writers and the tweak it to my playstyle or evolve it for the current Meta to have a few unexpected surprises for my opponents. The Shaman face deck is what it means take everything to the face and close out the win with a spell of some type in the end. The games that are wins for me usually end by turn eight. Normally if the game goes to turn ten or more it becomes a tough scenario but can be pulled out for a win. I usually do not worry about the board and force my opponent to make the card trades while I focus on the face. The main card this week that flipped the tide for the opponents was their use of reno jackson which I saw a heck of a lot of included in the following hero’s decks: Priest, Shaman, Druid, Warlock, and Paladin. I had a lot of games where the opposing hero was down to one life and the Reno came out. That led to a concede on my part because of the way my Shaman deck is set up: nothing for late game. Could changes be made? Of course but with my theme of two hours a day there was no changes I came up with for late game without increasing time per game play. I did try a Shaman Reno deck that worked well but the games lasted longer than I wanted. The second deck I used for a change of pace was a beast version of a Druid with the standard Roar/Force of Nature finishing combo. I get the deck starting idea from Hearthstone player’s dot com and modify to my own tastes from testing.

Game Numbers

The Tavern Brawl format I tried every Hero and settled on two. I played mainly Druid and Shaman. I also saw more Druid’s than anything else for opponents. I ended the week in Tavern Brawl with 62 wins. I ended rank play with 25 wins and 24 losses reaching Rank 14 for the week. I ended the week with 10 packs earned which was above my goal of 7 packs a week. I did have two spectate quests to watch another player win a game. I also had two quests that paid 100 gold which led to a very nice week for me. The other quests I came about were your standard 40 gold type. Questing turned out to be a nice quick win rate with being able to finish under the two hour limit. Keep in mind I do have times I do not meet my goals but for the most part I do. I hate to have to concede games but sometimes it is a must to follow my rules to maximizing time.

Screen Shots

In this section I will post screenshots of amazing luck on me or my opponents that were entertaining enough to show you the players. Sometimes I almost fall out of my chair laughing at some remarkable play in a game and therefore feel the need to post a screen shot.

Having two sunwalker on turn one was by the best turn one of the week for me in Tavern Brawl. I did have some more interesting turn ones and later turns but by far this was a highlight.

Closing Thoughts

I hope you guys have enjoyed this week in Hearthstone and I hope you continue to read my now two weekly articles which will be “This Week in Hearthstone and Tavern Brawl for the current week”. I encourage all readers to become premium members to get access to everything right away and at some point some of my articles may become premium also. For now peace out from snowy Texas as we had an interesting snow storm that closed our city down as far as working is concerned. Yes in Amarillo Texas it snows and sometimes a lot which is tough for our small city which is not equipped for the snow even though we get it every year.
