In his first victory at a major, Koy triumphed over Cong “StrifeCro” Shu of Cloud9 in an epic seven-game final. After the initial group stage both players looked to be in the form of their lives, with Shu not losing a game in his first three matches, including a 3-0 victory over reigning world champion James “Firebat” Kostesich in the quarter finals.

Koy took an early 3-1 lead thanks to his Grim Patron Warrior deck, but Shu’s traditional Zoolock helped him draw level and Koy had to win a close final series with his Druid to take the title.

Both players were visibly fatigued in the final as the day dragged on, with the match finishing so late that lead commentator Dan “Frodan” Chou had to leave the venue before the end to make his flight.

Unlike the Viagame House Cup 2 two months ago there were few surprises in the tournament, though Sheng Yuan “Roger” Luo and Stanislav Cifka impressed in making it to the semi finals.

Koy takes home $10,000 for the victory as well as 100 Hearthstone World Championship points, the latter of which will move him into first place in the European standings.
