Just weeks after announcing 132 new cards for Hearthstone, Blizzard is bringing significant changes to rewards for ranked play along with a second new mechanic that will come with its newest expansion.

The The Grand Tournament expansion will add a mechanic that Blizzard is calling “jousting.” When a minion with the mechanic is played, it will pull a random minion from each player’s deck and compare them. If the mana cost of the minion revealed is higher for the player who played the “joust” card, that card will receive a buff.

This comes in addition to the new “inspire” keyword which triggers whenever a player plays their hero power.

Changes are also coming to the rewards for ranked play every season. Instead of just receiving a new card back each month, players who achieve rank 20 in a given month will receive the card back, some golden cards and some arcane dust. The rewards will scale up depending on the rank a player finishes at, much like the current reward system in the arena game mode.

Amidst all the hype of new cards and gameplay changes, players are still waiting for a release date, though we do know it’s coming this month.
