Fireflyer’s “Best of Reddit Clips” Vol. 5

Hey everybody! It’s that time again! It’s the end of the month and you know what that means, REDDIT CLIPSSSSSSSSSS! Volume 5 of Fireflyer’s Best of Reddit Clips, bringing to you the best highlights that were posted on Reddit and adding a little bit of commentary to give you some insight into what’s happening or what we can learn from other people’s mistakes. A lot of the most recent clips were just “fun” moments during the HCT Winter Championships so I skipped a lot of those but there’s still a ton of fun goodies for these past 2 weeks. So let’s not waste anymore time and get right into it!

Best of Reddit Clips Vol. 5

MC Tech’d!

Alright! Let’s start off with some lucky RNG and a Mind Control Tech that just flipped the board on Asmodai. What’s even funnier is that someone in Twitch chat calls it out, saying that he’s going to get Mind Control Tech‘d and Asmodai responds saying if his Earth Elemental with Ancestral Spirit on it gets stolen, he’s banning the guy on Twitch. What a terrible day to be right! This is just a reminder to always be careful for Mind Control Tech when you’re facing Reno decks. A lot of Reno Warlock and Reno Mage decks are currently using Dirty Rat to help set up for Mind Control Tech combos so you can kind of guess that they’re being run in those decks if you’re up against them. I believe in this same turn, Asmodai dropped his hero power totem which allowed his opponent the opening to mind control his Earth Elemental and could have avoided it just by not toteming.

Ragnaros, Brawl Lord

Here’s a streamer that I haven’t seen before by the name of Kitkatz that shows off the true power of Brawl. Brawl is such a game changing card because of its ability to leave ONE minion remaining, whether it’s for your opponent or for yourself. He’s got a ton of health remaining and could probably survive a lot better if he just waited and let Ragnaros the firelord do his thing but instead he takes the risk and goes for the 50/50 that he will have a minion left, only to leave Ragnaros the firelord up which gives him perfect lethal. Not the smartest play, I would say, but definitely worked for him!

Holy Backstab

Here’s a fun Arena moment with our favorite Salt Specialist Kripparian using Holy Wrath. He has 14 cards remaining in his deck, 2 of them being 0 mana Backstabs but he takes the risk anyways, shooting off his Holy Wrath and hitting that 14% chance that he does 0 damage and basically pays 5 mana to draw a card. Still, the card draw helped since it allowed him to Backstab and clear through easily but drawing his Sunwalker would have been infinitely better, allowing him a free kill and a draw into an amazing play next turn.

Velen’s Dart

Here’s a Yogg-saron, hope’s end aftermath where a priest has Prophet velen up along with a Dart Trap tucked away thanks to Yogg. Thijs hero powers without even thinking it could be a Dart Trap and thanks to Prophet velen‘s spell damage boost, it ends up doing 10 damage to his face and easily giving the game to his opponent. yogg-saron, hope’s end is the best for secrets since it truly hides what kind of secret it can end up being. If your opponent is naturally running secrets you can usually make guesses to what they’re playing, like hunters using Freezing Trap, but it’s really hard to tell with Yogg tossing them out there.

What’s Demonwrath?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_KuCBtXWtc

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/ThijsHS

I’ve been seeing this happening a lot more lately. People seem to be forgetting that Demonwrath doesn’t work on demons and have been throwing them around, missing board wipes and wasting cards. In this situation, his opponent uses a Shadow Bolt on a 6/6 instead of the 6/2 demon because he thinks the Demonwrath will wipe them both but then ends up doing nothing and giving Thijs a free game.

Good Servant!

Here’s some lucky RNG thanks to Servant of yogg-saron. Nostam has out a 10/10 Forbidden Ancient and his opponent has no answer but to throw down Servant of Yogg-saron and see what happens. Of course, he ends up getting an Earth Shock and hitting the 50/50 of the right target, making his Forbidden ancient a 1/1 and killing it. What luck!

Kripp Luck

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/nl_Kripp

Kripparian is 1 damage short from lethal in this arena run and draws into a Mad Bomber that could give him the single damage he needs to kill his opponent. Lucky for him, all three damage ends up going to his opponent’s face which lets him know for sure that he’s dead, and he throws down the concede. The odds of that damage is pretty insane but it happens sometimes!

Sneaky Brann

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/ESL_Hearthstone

This was from a tournament where teams were pitted against each other. Virtus.Pro drops a Flamewaker on Turn 4 to try and deal with their opponent’s Brann Bronzebeard but even with a coin and a Frostbolt dealing 3 of the 4 damage they need, the two Flamewaker triggers miss 4 damage and leave Brann alive for a turn. This allows compLexity to play a Twilight Drake and get the Battlecry twice, making it a giant 4/13 against mage which rarely uses Polymorph right now. Pretty big play!

Shifty Squirrelmaker

This is a clip from a Fireside Gathering tournament where a guy has to go up against a 16/16 The Boogeymonster. Lucky for him, Shifter Zerus decides to become Tinkmaster Overspark in his hand which gives him a 50/50 on turning the The Boogeymonster into something. Even the 5/5 Dinosaur would have been okay but it was even better, turning the 16/16 into a 1/1 squirrel instead.

Bad Math

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c3JPZ__i-4

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/Firebat

Oh god, Firebat‘s opponent does the worst math I’ve seen in a LONG time. Firebat has a 7/8 Earth Elemental in play and for some reason, his opponent decides to use a Mortal strike and Bloodsail Cultist to deal 7 damage to it, leaving it as a 7/1 while he uses a Heroic Strike to make his damage up to 11, wasting all of it to attack into the Earth Elemental. He could have instead used the heroic strike and attacked into the elemental, then swung with Bloodsail Cultist for 3 damage and finish him off with the Mortal strike but I guess this works too…

Delete the curse

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYUkexKM8BY

It’s rare for me to run into any new tricks but this one was DEFINITELY new to me. Ratsmah plays an Ancient Shade which shuffles the 7 damage card into his deck but then uses a Tracking to look at the top 3 cards. Since the curse popped up, he can choose to throw it away and get rid of it forever, pretty sick play that gives you a cheap 4 mana 7/4! I will definitely try this sometime in arena as a hunter.

Bad Servant!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6zQmnYbw-o

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/lolNostam

Here’s another servant of yogg-saron being played on Nostam but this one goes a little better, giving him Windfury on his 9/9 with a Master of Disguise in his hand. He swings for 18 damage, puts his opponent to 9, and then gives him stealth so he can do it again next turn. Not a bad benefit from your opponent’s card!

Ancient One Dream

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh3HUqD7h4U

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/ratsmah

Here’s another amazing arena moment with Ratsmah where he does a funny little trick using Moat lurker. He uses Moat Lurker on his blood of the ancient one and then sets up next turn to play Princess Huhuran, triggering the deathrattle and giving him a Blood of the ancient one back, and then attacks and kills off his own Moat Lurker to get another one, triggering their ability at the end of his turn and giving himself a massive 30/30. THE DREAM!

That’s MADNESS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49MUlnKTEYw

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/nl_Kripp

Kripparian gets an amazing Shadow Madness play off in arena thanks to his opponent playing a Lotus Illusionist. He steals it, attacks, and then gets to keep it thanks to the trigger going off and turning it into a Mogor’s Champion while it’s on his side of the board, allowing him to keep it. 4 mana, deal 3 damage to your opponent, destroy their minion, and give yourself a mogor’s champion. NOT BAD!

Gotta Go!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzcsZIwTDjc

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/nl_Kripp

Another fun moment from Kripparian who decides to “clear the board” using Dragonfire potion and Excavated Evil. Sadly, after he plays the Dragonfire Potion he goes to play the Excavated Evil and can’t, oh yeah, because that’s 11 mana to cast both. He realizes his mistake really quick and immediately goes for the concede. I GOTTA GO!

Get rid of Deathrattle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9heQl4qtMvA

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/Savjz

In this video, Savjz is trying to expertly use a Devolve to get rid of his opponent’s Aya Blackpaw so they miss the next jade golem trigger. He knows they’ll still get a 5 mana minion so it’s not ideal, but at least it will get rid of the deathrattle. Sadly, it turns into a White Eyes which is an even WORSE deathrattle to run into. Bad luck Savjz!

Turn 1 10/10 not enough

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHdAvDpmQ_k

Credit: https://www.twitch.tv/PlayHearthstone

This was a great moment from the Winter Championships where Fr0zen drops down a Turn 1, 10/10 Edwin Vancleef thanks to lots of Counterfeit coins. What you don’t see in this video though is that even after that play, he ends up losing the match! His opponent, XHope, takes 10 damage the next turn, but then Frostbolt + Ice Lance the turn after to deal 7, and then finishes it off on Turn 4 with a Forgotten Torch. Turn 1 10/10 is nice but his opponent played really well into it, not giving up hope and keeping his mind in the game.

Conclusion

Well that’s it for Volume 5! I hope you all enjoyed the clips and if you did, come back 2 weeks from now for another edition of my Best of Reddit Clips. I do these every 2 weeks so you always have a steady flow of random fun moments to watch.

Leave me some comments below and tell me which one of the clips from this volume is your favorite!

As always you can follow me on Twitter at Twitter @HS_Fireflyer to see my Arena screenshots or follow my schedule, and follow me on Twitch at Twitch.tv/ItsFireflyer to catch me streaming and grinding. I’ve been on hiatus cause of moving and taking care of the new place but I’ll be back on soon, I’m just figuring out my schedule as well as possibly getting a new job. I did however reach Legend again this month and have been doing well in arena so I’m definitely excited to get back on and show off my new skills! Also once the new Un’Goro expansion hits, I’ll be playing a LOT more and messing around with the new meta so make sure to follow me and come hang out, I’m still new to Twitch so I really need the followers and the company when I’m online, it’s no fun talking to myself for 3+ hours while I’m in arena.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you all again soon! 🙂
