Makers of the popular esports calendar app Abios Gaming are branching into a new venture later this month. They plan to launch their own esports tournament.
The Abios Grand Tournament, a Hearthstone tournament with $5,000 on the line, will run later this month. Sixteen players will be invited to take part, with world champion James “Firebat” Kostesich and Peter “Gaara” Stevanovic among those already announced.
The event will be produced by experienced Hearthstone tournament organizers Kinguin. After a period of very regular tournaments Kinguin has taken a step back from Hearthstone in recent months following the conclusion of the Kinguin Pro League, instead focusing on producing tournaments for third parties. Indeed, with a number of organizers having stepped back or disappeared altogether from the Hearthstone scene, fans will surely welcome a new player into the scene.
Though Abios has only announced one tournament so far, it plans to run a host of tournaments across many different games, according to sources close to the organization.
Abios is also close to announcing a mobile version of it’s esports calendar. The service currently as a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox.
