This dead MOBA could be making a big comeback

Is it Copium, or could it really be back?

To everyone’s surprise on Oct. 23, Heroes of the Storm got a new patch on the Public Test Realm, leaving loyal fans hopeful that the game would finally make a return.

On Oct. 23, players received an extensive list of patch notes for the game. The post opens with developers thanking the community for “providing insight and feedback for these changes,” and then proceeds to list all the updates.

There were updated icons for 19 Heroes, Bounce abilities now require all targets to be visible, Cleave and Splash abilities reveal the area and do not require the target to be visible, and abilities like Junkrat’s Frag Launcher no longer hit Invulnerable enemies.

The Balance Update section also mentioned the difficulty levels were adjusted for a number of Heroes but no further details were included. There were also bug fixes for 63 of the game’s Heroes to help address issues that have cropped up over the past year.

The community was left in shock since many believed the developers had given up on the game. One fan jokingly wrote: “Time for us all to OD on that copium we’ve been hoarding!” While another player said: “The moment I see ANY slight balance changes is the moment I’ll lose my mind.”

The last time Heroes of the Storm received a patch of any kind was back on July 12, 2022. By that time, devs had already announced that future patches would focus “primarily on client sustainability and bug fixing, with balance updates coming as needed.” Now, many are hoping for the game’s revival, especially after the recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft.

It is unclear if Heroes of the Storm will be getting regular patches from now on but the fact the devs listened to the community feedback on the latest changes might mean we will see a long-awaited comeback.
