The Xbox brand continues to expand beyond the reaches of consoles, and now it has found a new home thanks to Amazon.
In a new ad that delightfully pays homage to the Scream franchise, Xbox announced that those who have an Amazon Fire Stick will now be able to stream Xbox games through the new Xbox app with their Game Pass Ultimate subscription. The service will be available for the Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max versions, both from 2023. This comes after the subscription service also became available on Samsung TVs two years ago, with the service being available for Samsung 2020 and newer televisions.
During the ad, a woman on the phone is asked what her favorite video game is from a guy who wants to play some Xbox. When she questions him, he proudly explains that you “don’t need an Xbox to play Xbox.” This statement is becoming more and more true for the Xbox brand, as hardware sales are declining for the company despite earnings being up, and former Xbox exclusives start popping up on other consoles and making waves in sales.
As more people become familiar with the Xbox brand outside of the traditional console, streaming games will become much more commonplace. These practices will come with obvious caveats such as losing the ability to play without a proper connection, but Microsoft might not be too concerned about that if earnings continue to rise.
