For the first time, eSportsNation will be covering a fighting game tournament. Kumite in Tennessee is taking place this Martin Luther King weekend featuring 15 games for players from across the globe to compete in.
Most notably, this is one of the last tournaments to qualify for the Killer Instinct World Cup, a $30,000 prize tournament that is set to take place at the end of the month! On top of that, there will be a $10,000 pot bonus for Mortal Kombat X from NetherRealm Studios, and a $500 bonus for Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 provided by Memphis Bawse Battles. The competition for MKX is looking fierce with just over 150 players competing for that 10k prize pool. Play Format All games are played as a double elimination style tournament. Each game has a set of pools that put together smaller groups of players to compete. These pools will set the stage as we narrow the competitors to the top eight from each game. Only those that place either first, second, or third will come home with a part of the prize pool. The Schedule The event will run from Jan. 15-17 and games will be streamed as follows. Saturday is when most of the major tournaments will take place, getting players through their qualifying pools to narrow down the playing field to the top eight. Then, on Sunday, the top eight players of each game will finish off the event.
