Media giant Disney has decided to move forward with a television sitcom titled Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything. The show will follow the exploits of a young professional gamer forced to return to school after suffering a debilitating thumb injury.

While the idea might conjure up errant attempts at dramatizing the gaming world such as Fred Savage’s masterpiece The Wizard, the people behind Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything likely aren’t aiming to produce a drama akin to The Wire or Oz for gamers.

The show will be carried on Disney XD, the company’s channel for kid’s programming, positioning it for its intended youthful audience. The show’s creators have spoken to how the main character will be visualizing his everyday life as if it were a video game in order to cope with the change from professional gaming to public school.

Whether or not this particular coping mechanism is a healthy one is likely secondary to the potential for visual flair that will come along with this gaming influence.

The show will star Cameron Boyce, who established a reputation for himself at Disney while acting on the show Jessie.

His character, a 15-year-old, may seem a bit young for an established esports star stepping away from his career due to injury. But legendary StarCraft player Lee “Flash” Young Ho was even younger when he made his television debut at 14, and it wasn’t long before Lee was dealing with significant health issues stemming from his gaming career. So it isn’t quite so far-fetched.

Shooting will begin soon for Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything, with the show set to debut this summer season. Esports fans the world over will surely be setting their DVRs.
