Naples Daily News reported on Jan. 28 that Layton faces misdemeanor charges of assault, battery, disorderly conduct, and trespassing.

A clerk at a Chevron gas station in North Naples, Fla. called the police after Layton allegedly threatened him. Deputies found surveillance footage showing Layton telling the clerk that he would slit his throat. In the video, Layton could be seen knocking over merchandise and punching the clerk in the face. The clerk ultimately pulls out a handgun, but Layton still manages to corner him into a cooler.

As Layton left the gas station, the clerk followed him to try and get his license plate number. This led to another altercation. The clerk pinned the other Layton to the ground only for him to again get the upper hand, chasing him around the parking lot.

In the Smash world, Layton is known for his top level Falco play, but he only appeared at one major tournament in 2015. He’s also notorious for his explosive behavior. He has been arrested multiple times, including on domestic violence charges. Team SoloMid’s William “Leffen” Hjelte has refused to money match Layton out of fear for his own safety.

Hugo “HugS” Gonzalez, a top professional Samus player, posted the following on Twitter:

Shoutouts to the people who had the nerve to call out a potential danger to the community no matter how popular he was.
