Players have accidentally found out how the spectating feature might work once it’s implemented in Fortnite: Battle Royale.
A player shared a short video of a glitched Fortnite lobby, where they were able to open up a “Spectate a Match” menu after trying to switch game modes. They opened it through a command listed on the bottom right of the window, which would remain hidden under normal circumstances. The menu has options “Join Friend Session” and “Join Game Session,” which the player can apparently choose depending on the kind of match they want to watch.
When they select the first option, a small message drops down and reads “No friends currently playing,” which could either be because the user’s friends in that video were all offline or because Epic hasn’t implemented the feature, so the tool is unable to find players. The second option asks the user to type in a “game session ID,” which is probably a custom match code that players can provide for anyone to watch.
Since the user had no friends online or a game session ID, the video has no further information about what happens after someone joins a match to spectate it.

Other users confirmed they also experienced this glitch and said that the Spectate a Match menu disappeared after restarting Fortnite. As another user commented, this menu seems to be almost finished, which means players could have access to the spectating feature as early as the v8.20 update being released tomorrow.
Epic Games has yet to confirm when this feature will be available to all players.
