Epic Games says Fortnite’s v6.21 update brought a few performance, matchmaking, and login issues

PC and iOS players were affected the most.

Fortnite players are used to some issues within the game when a new update drops. Some problems happened with the 6.20 update last week, the Fortnitemares challenges, and even before the launch of the v6.21 patch.

Even with the delay to fix the 6.21 patch, Epic said on Twitter that it’s investigating “a few issues” with performance and matchmaking. The company also used its service status page to say that it’s addressing a login issue in the iOS Fortnite version that makes players “unable to play until the client update for patch v6.21 becomes available on iOS.”

While the company hasn’t clarified what caused the performance and matchmaking issues, or in which platform or region they’re happening, a few players have reported these problems on Reddit. Some say their frame rate dropped as low as 10 frames per second, while others say their RAM usage now skyrockets when they launch Fortnite.

This doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue, though. The performance and matchmaking problems haven’t prompted Epic to change the Matchmaking status on their service page to “Degraded Performance,” as it usually does when the problems are severe. Also, there aren’t many reports about this issue on Reddit. Most players who reported these issues play on PC.

Matchmaking was the part of the game that suffered the most when the Fortnitemares update went live last week. Many players went through long queue times to join matches, and others were unable to play. This forced Epic to disable Fortnitemares temporarily until the developer solved the issue later that day.

Epic plans to keep players updated about these issues through the company’s Twitter account.

Update Nov. 1 10am CT: Epic tweeted that it has “resolved the issues preventing players on iOS from being able to download the v6.21 update.”
