Epic Games has provided a new update about the availability of the Playground limited time mode in Fortnite, which was launched and then swiftly disabled in the game’s 4.5 patch yesterday.
The sandbox-style game mode has been highly anticipated for a while, and Epic said that so many players tried to access it all at once when it launched yesterday that their matchmaking service could not handle the load.
“Yesterday we launched the Playground LTM,” said an Epic Games employee with the Reddit username MrPopoTFS. “So many of you rushed in to create and play that our matchmaking service fell over. We’ve since separated the Playground matchmaker from the one that affects the default modes and made large improvements to assist with the number of players. We plan to push these changes and improvements live later today to bring the Playground LTM back online.”
Playground is a one-hour-long mode where players respawn and can basically build at will. For some players it’s about being to play in a sandbox unencumbered by battle, for others it’s a way to practice their skills outside of the standard game modes.
In Playground, players can join up with a squad and build to their heart’s content thanks to resources being generated at 10 times the normal rate, and 100 Loot Llamas spawning around the map. Not only that, but chests and ammo boxes have a 100 percent spawn rate.
Epic did not give a specific time for the re-launch of Playground other than “later today,” so stay tuned for more information in the coming hours to know when the mode is ready to play once again.
