Fortnite’s newest update, v8.01, sees the introduction of a new tournament mode which will let players go head-to-head in a point based system.

The tournament will consist of a single session which starts now and finishes March 8 at 6pm CT.

Players will be matched against opponents with similar point totals. Matchmaking will last up to eight minutes with a wider points range being considered after four minutes.

There is no match limit within the tournament, however, each match played will reduce your score by two points in the form of a “Bus Fare.” If a player has a negative score at the end of the tournament, their points will be reset to zero.

It’s important to note that duo players will each have their own score allowing them to change partners at no cost.

Players will be ranked on the below points system:

  • Victory Royale: +3 Points (+10 Total)
  • 2nd – 5th: +2 Points (+7 Total)
  • 6th – 10th: +2 Points (+5 Total)
  • 11th – 25th: +3 Points (+3 Total)
  • Each Elimination: +1 Point

At the end of the Gauntlet Test Event, the top 5 percent of players will unlock the opportunity to take place in the Gauntlet Finals tournament.

The Gauntlet Finals will be a scheduled three-hour event starting at a specific in-game local time. There will be a match limit of 10 games and players will be ranked on the same points system as the previous stage.

The top 3,000 players in each server region will then advance to round two on Sunday during same time block.

Epic has yet to provide any information on if there will be prizes for the top placed players or if they will simply be playing for glory.
