Diablo 4’s best new mode won’t be leaving after Season 5 ends

The fight rages on, even after season five.

Wave-based Infernal Hordes has been one of the best additions to the Blizzard action RPG, with fans clamoring for more of the game mode. The good news is, it’s sticking around: Infernal Hordes is permanent, the developers confirmed today.

Players returning to Diablo 4 for season five were amazed by how much had improved and how good the fresh content was, especially Infernal Hordes. One of the biggest worries post-season launch has been the mode staying around; an unfounded concern, apparently. Adam Fletcher, Diablo’s community director, today reminded fans Infernal Hordes is a permanent feature, so no one needs to worry about it being shelved.

Early feedback on the new Diablo 4 mode has been super positive, with many already declaring it “a really great new addition.” Nothing’s perfect, of course, with players interested in seeing no breaks, progressively harder waves, and better rewards the longer you survive, but for the time being everyone’s just enjoying playing.

Now they know it’s sticking around, there is one thing that’s causing a groundwell around the Hordes mode: the ability to earn glyph experience. There’s only one way to earn it; Nightmare Dungeons. By updating this feature, more players would enjoy taking on the waves and the Fell Council more, as they could get great loot and glyph experience. It would be the ultimate two for the price of one deal. I, for one, would spam Infernal Hordes if I could earn glyph experience because Nightmare Dungeons can be so repetitive.

Other suggestions today included the option to reroll Infernal Offers (the boons and banes) using Aether, which would certainly help get the most out of the mode.

All of these requested features would create a unique experience for the Diablo 4 roguelite feature and hopefully the devs now continue to improve the popular Infernal Hordes with every new season or major content drop.

If you’re not interested in seasonal content, don’t worry: You can even enjoy Infernal Hordes on the Eternal Realm right now. To do that, you just have to complete the Infernal Horde questline, which opens with The Eyes of the Enemy quest in Zarbinzet in World Tier Three and eventually wraps up with The Edge of the Abyss questline.

No matter how you enjoy it though, Infernal Hordes isn’t going anywhere—and, hopefully, Blizzard builds on its success in season six and well beyond too.
