With the prizepool for MLG’s Counter-Strike major upped to $1 million, and more North American teams qualifying than for any other major, fans are flocking to the event in droves. It’s already sold out.
MLG’s live event chief, Adam Apicella, tweeted the news earlier today, later adding that they were attempting to add some extra capacity with the venue but that more tickets were unlikely.
Though the exact setup and capacity is unknown, the Nationwide Arena lists a capacity of 18,500. Fans will be able to take in the bracket stage in the stadium on April 1 to 3.
MLG and Apicella in particular have drawn praise from the community for the quality of their public-facing communication and transparency on plans for the major.
Cloud9, Team Liquid, Splyce, Counter Logic Gaming, G2 Esports, Mousesports, Gambit Gaming and Flipsid3 Tactics all booked their places at the major in this weekend’s qualifiers. They will join the top eight from the last Counter-Strike major, DreamHack Cluj—Team EnVyUs, Fnatic, FaZe, Na`Vi, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Virtus.pro, Astralis and Luminosity Gaming. Â
