Who will be the new boys of Summer?

Immortals are seeking their second consecutive DreamHack Summer title and a $50,000 grand prize in a tough international playing field this weekend in Jönköping, Sweden.

They share Group A with their Brazilian counterparts, SK Gaming, and two European teams, mousesports and Team Singularity. SK and mouz were sent invites to the event, while Singularity earned their spot in the group through the European qualifier.

Group B consists of Cloud9, CLG, Fnatic, and Gambit Esports. C9, Fnatic, and Gambit were given direct invites, but CLG needed to survive the North American qualifier for their slot in the tournament.

The schedule for the DreamHack Summer GSL group stage is as follows (Times listed in CDT):

Saturday, June 17th (Best-of-one matches)

1:00 PM Group A – Match #1 – SK Gaming vs Singularity

2:30 PM Group B – Match #1 – Gambit vs us CLG

4:00 PM Group A – Match #2 – Mousesports vs Immortals

5:30 PM Group B – Match #2 – Fnatic vs Cloud9

7:00 PM Group A – Winners Match – TBD vs TBD

8:30 PM Group B – Winners Match – TBD vs TBD

Sunday, June 18th (Best-of-three matches)

11:00 AM Group A – Elimination Match

2:00 PM Group B – Elimination Match

5:00 PM Group A – Decider Match

8:00 PM Group B – Decider Match

Group A could easily be taken by SK, with the final spot being fought over by mouz and Immortals in the elimination match on Sunday. Group B should be a cake-walk for Gambit and Fnatic considering C9 and CLG’s recent form. Once both spots for each group are decided, teams from opposing groups will face-off in the semifinals the next day.

Here’s the schedule for the one-day playoff bracket (Times also listed in CDT):

Monday, June 19th (Best-of-three matches)

12:00 PM Semifinal 1 – BO3 – Group A Seed 1 vs Group B Seed 2

3:00 PM Semifinal 2 – BO3 – Group B Seed 1 vs Group A Seed 2

7:00 PM Grand Final – BO3

It should be fun to see how Immortals plan to defend the title, with such a competitive pool of teams hungry for their first championship win of the year. SK, on the other hand, will be contending for their third of 2017.
