Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone evolve with the franchise. Every few months, the game’s developers add various pieces of new content to the game that come bundled with new seasons and maintenance patches.

While each patch will be filled with new game modes and hotfixes, they can also cause anomalies. When that’s the case, players may start encountering errors while playing MW3 and Warzone or trying to access it. Most of these errors often get fixed before a patch makes its public debut, but some can sneak in and appear when the masses flood onto the servers.

The Fetching Online Profile error generally appears when Warzone’s servers go down or after new patches. The developers often roll out a hotfix, but there are a few alternative solutions players can try out to see whether they can log into MW3 and Warzone.

Here’s the latest information on a really annoying bug in MW3 and Warzone, the “Fetching Online Profile” error.

How to fix Fetching Online Profile error in MW3 and Warzone

  • Check MW3 or Warzone‘s server status.
    • Warzone or MW2 might currently be undergoing some serious problems with the servers. This sometimes happens on launch days of big updates, like the first day of a new season, or other big content drops. If the game’s servers are currently listed as having some sort of problem, then you may just have to wait it out until a fix has been deployed.
  • Check CoD social pages.
    • Call of Duty’s Twitter account is usually a great place to see if the game is having issues. The CoD Updates page is made specifically for this, so be sure to follow it.
  • Restart your router.
    • If CoD’s servers are up and running, the error may be appearing due to network inconsistencies on your end. Restarting your router is the fastest way to troubleshoot your connection, but make sure to wait at least a minute before turning your router back on again.
  • Check if there’s a pending update for Warzone or MW3.
    • This goes back to the issue above where, sometimes, an update isn’t completely finished downloading. This happens sometimes with how seasonal updates are rolled out when Activision will deploy the update but won’t allow it to be installable until a certain time. Try restarting your game and letting an update finish downloading.
  • Change your DNS servers.
    • Most players use the default DNS servers that are assigned by their internet service providers. When these servers go down, it’s expected to run into errors. Change your DNS to more commercially available ones like Google’s and try logging into Warzone or MW3 again. You can switch back to your original DNS servers after some time.
