The 2018 CWL Anaheim Open kicked off on Friday with the best Call of Duty teams in the world beginning their quest for a piece of the $200,000 prize pool. Anaheim is always a historic and highly-anticipated venue for Call of Duty events, and this tournament is living up to the hype early on.

In Pool A, the best team from Europe were out to prove that they’re also one of the top squads in the world. Red Reserve started their run at Anaheim 3-0 with wins over Tainted Minds, eUnited, and FaZe Clan.

OpTic Gaming are also undefeated so far in the Golden State. The recently-revamped Green Wall only dropped one map on Friday, beating Splyce, compLexity, and Team Envy to start the weekend 3-0 in Pool D.

Nobody went undefeated in Pools B or C, however. Rise Nation, Luminosity, and Team Kaliber are in a three-way tie at the top of Pool B. Team Kaliber swept Rise, while the defending champs took down Luminosity. But Luminosity closed out the night with a strong 3-0 win over Team Kaliber—which means all three of these teams are 2-1.

In Pool C, Echo Fox, UNILAD, and Mindfreak all ended the first day in Anaheim 2-1—but one of the biggest surprises of the tournament so far has been Evil Geniuses, who went 0-3 on Friday. The open bracket team that qualifies for each of these pools will likely have a huge impact on who advances into the championship winners bracket.
