Mirage bug lets his decoy protect players from grenade damage in Apex Legends

This should be fixed soon.

If you think Mirage is horrible in Apex Legends, you’re right. But a bug has been making one of his abilities great for protection.

Mirage’s holographic decoy can protect its user from grenades, a player found and shared on Reddit. When the player uses Mirage’s tactical ability Psyche Out to place the decoy, if it’s in front of a grenade such as an Arc Star, it’ll block the explosive damage. According to the player, the decoy has also been blocking bullets and melee attacks.

That’s not how Psyche Out is supposed to work, and a Respawn developer said the team is already working on a fix for it. The decoy is a hologram, so it shouldn’t act like a physical barrier to anything, especially grenades and damage. This bug gives Mirage an incredible meat shield under a cooldown of 15 seconds. The author of the post didn’t say if the same bug is happening with holograms created by Mirage’s ultimate, Vanishing Act, which spawns multiple decoys.

The issue with decoys seems to be complex. It’s not like they now have a hitbox and behave like a solid object. Another person confirmed that even though these decoys are acting like walls to explosive damage, players can’t attach Arc Stars onto them and send them running toward an enemy. The Arc Star just flies through the decoy and hits the next object.

The usual goal of a player using Psyche Out is to make the decoy replicate their movement when using it, such as running toward a certain direction. The decoy lures opponents and might make them shoot at it, which will reveal their position for the real player to catch them with their guard down.

Respawn rarely pushes hotfixes for bugs like this, so players should expect Mirage to be fixed when the next Apex Legends update goes live.
